Mission Briefing: Why Quadium exists and what to expect here

Post by Jaime Clot »

Welcome to the Quadium 4004 Workbench dev-log.

If you are here, you probably share a specific kind of madness: an obsession with the dawn of the microprocessor era.
Quadium didn't start as just another project; it started as a necessity. I wanted a professional-grade, reliable environment to interact with the Intel 4004—not just a simple emulator, but a true digital workbench for software development.

What is the goal of Quadium?
The aim is to provide engineers, students, and retro-computing enthusiasts with a tool that feels like a modern IDE but respects every quirk and limitation of the 1971 hardware architecture.
We are roughly 6 months away from the official release (November 2026), and the engine is already showing its teeth.

What will you find in this Dev-Log?
I’ll be using this space to document the "war stories" of development. You can expect:
  • Deep dives into the 4004 Instruction Set: Exploring the alien logic of early silicon.
  • Development Challenges: How we translate 1970s hardware logic into a smooth modern experience.
  • Workbench Features: Sneak peeks at the UI, debugger, and peripheral simulations.
  • Project Milestones: Updates on our path toward the Steam launch.
I’m building this for the community of people who look at a 4-bit bus and see infinite possibilities. Feel free to ask questions, suggest features, or just geek out over the 4004.

Stay tuned. The first technical deep dive into the 4004’s weirdest instructions is coming up next.
